MMP13 (collagenase 3)은 세포외기질 단백질(피브릴 콜라겐, 피브로넥틴, TNC, ACAN 등)의 분해에 관여합니다.
특히 type II 콜라겐에 대한 활성이 가장 높으며, type I, II, III, IV, X, XIV 콜라겐을 절단할 수 있습니다.
MMP13은 상처 치유, 조직 재형성, 연골 분해, 골 발달, 석회화 및 골화 과정에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
유전자 변이는 spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia Missouri type, metaphyseal anadysplasia 1, metaphyseal dysplasia Sphar type과 관련될 수 있습니다.
