Target Information
Aldh3A1 is a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenase superfamily, a group of NAD(P)(+)-dependent enzymes that catalyze oxidation of a wide range of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes. It is highly expressed in stomach and cornea, where it may protect against UV-induced oxidative stress through detoxification and direct UV absorption. Mice lacking Aldh3A1 and Aldh1A1 show increased cataract formation after UVB exposure, suggesting compensatory function by Aldh1A1.
