Gene: ITAGV (Integrin alpha chain V)
Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha and a beta chain. The I-domain containing integrin alpha V undergoes post-translational cleavage to yield disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, which combine with multiple integrin beta chains (β1, β3, β5, β6, β8) to form various integrins. Among these, the αVβ3 integrin, also known as the Vitronectin receptor (VNR), is well characterized.
Integrins mediate cell adhesion and participate in cell-surface signal transduction. The β3 chain, encoded by ITGB3, is found with the αIIb chain in platelets and contributes to adhesion and signaling functions.
