Target Information
This gene encodes a type I transmembrane protein and is a tumor-specific endothelial marker implicated in colorectal cancer. It also acts as a receptor for Bacillus anthracis toxin, mediating delivery of toxin components into cells. Once inside, edema factor (EF) and lethal factor (LF) disrupt normal cellular processes. Three alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
