Target Information

Poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation is a DNA-damage-dependent post-translational modification of histones and other nuclear proteins, contributing to survival of injured proliferating cells. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases (PARPs) form a family of 18 proteins with conserved catalytic domains. PARP-1 and PARP-2 are activated by DNA strand breaks. Novel PARPs extend the field of poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation to various aspects of cell biology, including proliferation and death. These members share common partners and localizations, suggesting fine regulation of this modification.
