Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of eukaryotic chromatin. Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 form an octamer, around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped to form nucleosomes. The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and contributes to chromatin compaction.
The histone H4 gene is intronless, lacks polyA tails, and contains a palindromic termination element. It is located within the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6.
