Target Information
The AGT gene encodes pre-angiotensinogen (angiotensinogen precursor), primarily expressed in the liver. It is cleaved by renin in response to lowered blood pressure to produce angiotensin I, which is further processed by ACE to form angiotensin II, a physiologically active peptide involved in blood pressure regulation. Mutations in AGT are associated with essential hypertension, renal tubular dysgenesis, atrial fibrillation, and inflammatory bowel disease.
