Target Information
PDE12 is an enzyme that cleaves the 2’,5’-phosphodiester bond linking adenosines of triphosphorylated oligoadenylates (2-5A), modulating the 2-5A system. This enzyme degrades triphosphorylated 2-5A to produce AMP and ATP, and also cleaves 3’,5’-phosphodiester bonds of oligoadenylates. PDE12 acts as a negative regulator of the 2-5A system, a key antiviral and antitumor pathway induced by interferons (IFNs). Suppression of PDE12 reduces viral replication in HeLa cells, likely by inhibiting the 2-5A system.
