Target Information
PDE12 is an enzyme that cleaves the 2',5'-phosphodiester bond linking adenosines of the 5'-triphosphorylated oligoadenylates (2-5A), which modulates the 2-5A system.
This enzyme degrades triphosphorylated 2-5A to produce AMP and ATP.
It also cleaves the 3',5'-phosphodiester bond of oligoadenylates and functions as a negative regulator of the 2-5A system — one of the major pathways for antiviral and antitumor responses induced by interferons (IFNs).
Suppression of PDE12 reduces viral replication in HeLa cells, suggesting it counteracts antiviral pathways by inhibiting the 2-5A system.
