Target Information
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a human herpesvirus associated with conditions such as Hodgkin’s disease, Burkitt’s lymphoma, and infectious mononucleosis. EBV latently infects B lymphocytes, expressing nuclear antigens and latent proteins LMP1, LMP2A, and LMP2B.
LMP2A aggregates in the plasma membrane of B cells, acting as a negative regulator of Src and Syk tyrosine kinases. It blocks B-cell receptor (BCR) signal transduction in EBV-immortalized B cells in vitro and may help maintain latent infection in peripheral B cells.
EBNA-1 is the only viral protein consistently expressed in all EBV-associated malignancies.
