Target Information
T Complex Polypeptide 1 (TCP-1) is a ~60 kDa protein expressed in nearly all eukaryotic cells and upregulated during spermatogenesis. It functions as part of a cytosolic chaperone complex involved in folding actin and tubulin. Chaperonins stabilize polypeptide intermediates during folding and share characteristics with Heat Shock Protein 70 (HSP70), including abundance, stress induction, and ATPase activity. The chaperonin family includes mitochondrial HSP60, E. coli GroEL, plastid Rubisco-subunit binding protein, and archaebacterial TF55. TCP-1 shows ~40% identity with TF55 but minimal similarity to HSP60 and GroEL.
