Target Information
Melanoma-associated antigens (MAGE) are silent in normal tissues except for male germ cells and, for some, placenta. These antigens are typically tumor-specific and expressed in various tumor cell types. Due to their selective expression, MAGE proteins are of particular interest in antitumor immunotherapy. Genes of the MAGE family encode tumor antigens recognized by autologous cytolytic T lymphocytes in human melanoma. Although the function of MAGEH1 is not fully elucidated, it may play roles in embryonal development, tumor transformation, or tumor progression.
