Target Information
Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase 1 (PCK1) is a key regulatory enzyme in gluconeogenesis. It acts as the rate-limiting enzyme controlling the conversion between oxaloacetate and phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) depending on glucose levels.
PCK1 also regulates the formation and maintenance of memory CH8(+) T-cells via gluconeogenesis and controls metabolic intermediates in the citric acid cycle through cataplerosis and anaplerosis.
When phosphorylated at Ser-90 by AKT1, PCK1 functions as a protein kinase, influencing lipogenesis by promoting nuclear translocation of SREBP proteins and transcription of lipogenesis-related genes.
An important paralog of this gene is PCK2.
