Target Information
Apolipoproteins are protein components of plasma lipoproteins. The apolipoprotein C gene family encodes four homologous proteins designated apoC-I to -IV, which specifically modulate the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.
- ApoC-I: Encoded on chromosome 19q13.2, primarily expressed in the liver, activated when monocytes differentiate into macrophages.
- ApoC-II: Encoded on chromosome 19q13.2, 79 amino acid single-chain protein, cofactor for lipoprotein lipase activation.
- ApoC-III: Encoded on chromosome 11q23, may delay catabolism of triglyceride-rich particles by inhibiting lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase.
- ApoC-IV: Encoded on chromosome 19q13.2, 127 amino acid protein, primarily expressed in the liver.
