Target Information
The FADS1 gene encodes a member of the fatty acid desaturase family. These enzymes regulate fatty acid unsaturation by introducing double bonds at specific positions in the fatty acyl chain. FADS family members consist of an N-terminal cytochrome b5-like domain and a C-terminal desaturase domain with conserved histidine motifs. The FADS1 and FADS2 genes are clustered at 11q12–q13.1, likely derived from gene duplication due to similar exon/intron structures.
