Background
Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily K member 6 (OR6K6) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses responsible for smell perception. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure shared with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They recognize and mediate odorant signal transduction via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is organism-specific.
