Target Information
AADAT encodes a protein similar to mouse and rat kynurenine aminotransferase II. The rat protein functions as a homodimer with dual transaminase activities:
- Transamination of alpha-aminoadipic acid, the final step in the saccharopine pathway for L-lysine catabolism.
- Transamination of kynurenine to produce kynurenic acid, a neuroprotective compound.
Two alternative transcripts encoding the same isoform have been identified, though additional transcripts and isoforms may exist.
