This gene is a member of the albumin gene family, which includes four genes localized on chromosome 4 in a tandem arrangement. These genes encode structurally related serum transport proteins that are evolutionarily related. The encoded protein is developmentally regulated, expressed in the liver, and secreted into the bloodstream.
