Mcoln3 유전자 결함은 varitin-waddler (Va) 표현형의 원인으로 알려져 있으며, 이 표현형은 조기 청력 손실, 전정 기관 이상, 색소 이상, 주산기 치사 등을 유발합니다.
Va-J (varitin-waddler Jackson) 표현형은 Va와 유사하지만 덜 심각한 형태입니다.
이 단백질은 transient receptor family의 polycystin subfamily에 속합니다.
