AMPK alpha-2는 AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)의 촉매 서브유닛으로, 세포의 에너지 상태를 감지하고 조절하는 핵심 효소입니다. AMPK는 α, β, γ 서브유닛으로 구성된 이합체이며, 에너지 스트레스 시 활성화되어 acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC)와 HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR)를 인산화 및 불활성화시켜 지방산 및 콜레스테롤의 생합성을 조절합니다.
마우스 연구에 따르면, 이 단백질은 전신 인슐린 감수성을 조절하고 허혈 시 심근의 에너지 항상성을 유지하는 데 필수적입니다.
