Target Information
CD1E encodes a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, which are structurally related to MHC proteins and form heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin. CD1 proteins mediate the presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes on chromosome 1. CD1 family members differ in localization and ligand specificity. The CD1E protein localizes in Golgi, endosomes, and lysosomes, and is cleaved into a stable soluble form required for intracellular glycolipid processing.
