Target Information
CD16 encodes a receptor that recognizes the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G and is involved in the clearance of immune complexes from circulation, as well as in cellular-mediated cytotoxicity and enhancement of viral infections.
The gene FCGR3A shares high similarity with FCGR3B, located on chromosome 1.
- FCGR3A: expressed on NK cells, integral membrane glycoprotein with a transmembrane peptide.
- FCGR3B: expressed on PMNs, anchored via phosphatidylinositol linkage.
Mutations in this gene are associated with immunodeficiency 20, susceptibility to recurrent viral infections, systemic lupus erythematosus, and alloimmune neonatal neutropenia.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
