Target Information
Langerin (CD207) is a type II membrane-associated C-type lectin expressed exclusively by Langerhans cells.
It recognizes mannose residues via its single carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) and is localized both on the cell surface and intracellularly, closely associated with Birbeck granules.
Transfection of Langerin cDNA into fibroblasts induces formation of membrane structures characteristic of Birbeck granules, suggesting its role in membrane superimposition and BG formation.
