Target Information
Voltage-gated potassium channels are the largest and most diversified class of ion channels, found in both excitable and nonexcitable cells. They regulate resting membrane potential and control action potential shape and frequency.
The KCNS3 gene encodes a protein that is electrically silent by itself but can form heteromultimers with other Shab-related potassium channel subunits (member 1 and member 2). This gene belongs to the S subfamily of potassium channel family.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
