Target Information
The STAT5B gene encodes a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. Upon cytokine or growth factor stimulation, STAT proteins are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases, forming homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators. STAT5B mediates signaling from IL2, IL4, CSF1, and various growth hormones, and is involved in biological processes such as TCR signaling, apoptosis, mammary gland development, and liver gene expression dimorphism.
In some cases of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APLL), STAT5B is fused with the RARA gene. Dysregulation of STAT5B-mediated signaling pathways may contribute to APLL pathogenesis.
