Target Information

FKBP15 (also known as FKBP133) is a member of the FK506-binding protein family, initially identified as immunophilins and targets for the immunosuppressant drugs FK506 and Rapamycin.
FKBP15 is expressed in the developing nervous system and contains a WH1 domain similar to Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein homology region 1, in addition to the FK506-binding motif.
It is distributed along axonal shafts and partially co-localizes with F-actin in growth cones of dorsal root ganglion neurons. Overexpression increases filopodia formation, suggesting a role in growth cone behavior.
FKBP15 associates with microtubules and actin filaments, and its knockdown by RNAi delays early endosome transport in HeLa cells, indicating involvement in endosomal transport.
At least three isoforms of FKBP15 are known.
