Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Neurturin.
Target Information
Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) plays key roles in the control of vertebrate neuron survival and differentiation. A novel neurotrophic factor, neurturin (NTN), was cloned from human and mouse. Physiological responses to NTN require receptor tyrosine kinase RET and a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-linked receptor NTNRalpha. NTNRalpha cDNAs from various species have been cloned and are also known as GDNFR-b, RETL2, or TrnR2, recently nominated as GFR-a-2. NTN binds to GFR-a-2 and RET PTK, activating the RET receptor tyrosine kinase pathway. Both NTN and GDNF activate MAP kinase and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase pathways, playing critical roles in neuronal development. Neurturin and GDNF define a new family of neurotrophic factors.
