Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a key role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression. Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK has been linked to cell cycle regulation.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development. Deregulated expression of c-Myc can induce apoptosis and is associated with multiple cancers including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas. Translocation of the c-myc locus is characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell disorders.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize Myc-tagged fusion proteins and are valuable tools for studying oncogene function and cell proliferation mechanisms.
