Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids. The protein encoded by this gene is a cytoplasmic enzyme belonging to the class II family of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. It synthesizes histidyl-transfer RNA, essential for incorporating histidine into proteins. The gene is located head-to-head with HARSL on chromosome 5, sharing a bidirectional promoter. The gene product is a frequent target of autoantibodies in the autoimmune diseases polymyositis and dermatomyositis.
