Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris Buffer with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
  • Western Blot: 1–2 µg/mL for 2 hours at room temperature.

Target Information

CD81 (TAPA-1, target of anti-proliferative antibody-1) is a member of the tetraspanin family expressed on most nucleated cells, especially germinal center B cells.
It forms complexes with tetraspanin proteins, integrins, coreceptors, and MHC molecules, influencing adhesion, morphology, activation, proliferation, and differentiation of immune cells.
In muscle tissue, CD81 promotes cell fusion and myotube maintenance.
It also acts as a receptor for the hepatitis C virus.
CD81 and related tetraspanins (CD9, CD37, CD53, CD63, CD82) are cell-surface proteins with four hydrophobic domains that mediate signal transduction in cell development and motility.
Antibodies to CD81 have anti-proliferative effects on lymphoid cell lines, particularly large cell lymphomas.
CD81 is located in a tumor-suppressor gene region and is a candidate gene for malignancies.
