Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and in isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8.
Individual human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20. Expression patterns vary by epithelial type and maturation stage, aiding in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are useful tools in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
