Target Information
Alpha 2-Macroglobulin (A2M) is an approximately 720-kDa homotetrameric glycoprotein composed of four identical ~180 kDa subunits.
A2M shares with other alpha-macroglobulins, such as complement components C3 and C4 and pregnancy zone protein (PZP), a broad ligand-binding capacity.
This enables alpha-macroglobulins to act as humoral defense barriers against foreign peptides in plasma.
A2M interacts and captures virtually any proteinase, functioning as a panprotease inhibitor.
In the brains of Alzheimer’s disease patients, A2M has been localized to diffuse amyloid plaques, supporting its important role in AD pathophysiology.
