Target Information
HOXC11 belongs to the homeobox family of genes, which encode transcription factors crucial for morphogenesis in multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four homeobox gene clusters (HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, and HOXD) located on different chromosomes, each containing 9–11 genes arranged in tandem.
HOXC11 is located within the HOXC cluster on chromosome 12. The gene product binds to the promoter of lactase-phlorizin hydrolase and may play a role in early intestinal development. An alternatively spliced variant encoding a shorter isoform has been described, but its full-length nature has not been determined.
