Glyceraldehyde 3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (GAPDH)는 해당과정(glycolysis)에서 glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate의 가역적 산화적 인산화를 촉매하는 대사 효소입니다. GAPDH는 세포의 ‘housekeeping’ 기능을 위해 항상 필요하며, 높은 수준으로 발현되는 단백질입니다. 따라서 GAPDH mRNA는 종종 mRNA 발현 연구에서 표준으로 사용되며, GAPDH 단백질 수준을 비교 연구하기 위해 특정 항체가 활용됩니다. GAPDH는 Alzheimer병 관련 amyloid precursor protein, Huntington병 관련 Huntingtin 단백질, actin 및 tubulin 등 다양한 단백질과 결합하는 것으로 보고되었습니다. 또한 세포 사멸(apoptosis) 조절에도 관여하며, 세포가 apoptosis 상태가 될 때 세포질에서 핵으로 이동하는 특성을 보입니다.
