The immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of SYP expressed in E. coli.
MA5-15623 detects SYP with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 33.8 kDa.

Target Information

Synaptophysin is a calcium-binding integral membrane glycoprotein located in presynaptic vesicles of nearly all neurons.
It has four transmembrane domains and forms a complex with dynamin under high calcium concentrations, suggesting a role in synaptic vesicle endocytosis.
Synaptophysin is involved in regulating short- and long-term synaptic plasticity and is widely used as a marker for nerve terminals and neuroendocrine tumor differentiation.
Mutations in the gene are associated with X-linked mental retardation.
