Target Information

STK4 (MST1) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in apoptosis. This protein may induce chromatin condensation during apoptosis. Following caspase cleavage, STK4 translocates to the nucleus, promoting chromatin condensation and internucleosomal DNA fragmentation.
It is a key component of the Hippo signaling pathway, crucial for organ size control and tumor suppression by limiting proliferation and promoting apoptosis.
Within this pathway, STK3/MST2 and STK4/MST1, complexed with SAV1, phosphorylate and activate LATS1/2 with MOB1. LATS1/2 then phosphorylate and inactivate YAP1 and WWTR1/TAZ, preventing their nuclear translocation and regulating genes associated with proliferation, cell death, and migration.
STK3/MST2 and STK4/MST1 are essential for repressing mature hepatocyte proliferation, preventing activation of adult liver stem cells (oval cells), and inhibiting tumor formation.
