Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions at the site of synthesis, playing a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency elevates HDL cholesterol in animals. LIPG exhibits substantial phospholipase activity and participates in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. It belongs to the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region providing substrate specificity. LIPG hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, and is essential for efficient digestion of dietary fats, with heparin-binding capability.
