Target Information

Glutathione S-transferase M3 (GSTM3) is an enzyme encoded by the GSTM3 gene in humans. It belongs to the mu class of glutathione S-transferases, which function in detoxification of electrophilic compounds, including carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins, and oxidative stress products, by conjugation with glutathione.

The mu class enzyme genes are organized in a cluster on chromosome 1p13.3 and are highly polymorphic. These genetic variations can influence susceptibility to carcinogens and toxins, as well as the toxicity and efficacy of certain drugs. Mutations in this gene class have been linked with a slight increase in various cancers, likely due to environmental toxin exposure.
