Target Information
UBA2 participates in the covalent attachment of one protein to another, a key posttranslational modification process. Ubiquitin is the most well-known modifier, and its activation and transfer have been extensively studied. Recently, SUMO (Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier) proteins have gained attention for their roles in stabilizing target proteins and regulating subcellular localization.
SUMO conjugation to target proteins (SUMO-1, SUMO-2, SUMO-3) requires the coordinated action of the E1-activating enzyme SAE1/SAE2, the E2-conjugating enzyme Ubc9, and an E3-like SUMO ligase.
