Target Information
OLIG2 encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor expressed in oligodendroglial tumors of the brain. It plays a key role in regulating ventral neuroectodermal progenitor cell fate.
This gene is involved in chromosomal translocation t(14;21)(q11.2;q22) linked to T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Located on chromosome 21, it may contribute to learning deficits associated with Down syndrome.
Tissue specificity: Expressed in the brain, specifically in oligodendrocytes. Strong expression in oligodendrogliomas, weak to moderate in astrocytomas, and variable in glioblastomas.
