Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure in eukaryotic chromatin. Two molecules each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, H4) form an octamer, around which ~146 bp of DNA is wrapped to form nucleosomes. The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes, promoting chromatin compaction into higher-order structures.
This protein also exhibits antibacterial and antifungal activity. The main transcript variant of this gene is intronless, encoding a replication-dependent histone H2B family member. It lacks a polyA tail and contains a palindromic termination element. The gene is located within the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6.
