Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fibers in eukaryotes. Two molecules of each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4) form an octamer around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped, forming nucleosomes.
The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and contributes to chromatin compaction into higher-order structures.
The HIST1H2BC protein also exhibits antibacterial and antifungal activity. Its main transcript variant is intronless and encodes a replication-dependent histone of the H2B family. This variant lacks a polyA tail and instead contains a palindromic termination element. The gene resides in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6.
