Target Information
Estrogen Receptors (ER) belong to the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. The estrogen receptor acts as a ligand-activated transcription factor that binds estrogen, leading to dimerization and interaction with estrogen response elements (ERE) in DNA. This interaction regulates gene transcription through coactivator or corepressor recruitment.
There are two main forms, ERα (ESR1) and ERβ (ESR2), with multiple isoforms of ERα (66, 53, 47, 35 kDa).
ERs are widely expressed and crucial for sexual development, reproductive function, and bone health. They are implicated in diseases such as breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and osteoporosis.
