Target Information
TRF2 is a ubiquitously expressed protein implicated in the control of telomere length. Like TRF1, TRF2 contains a Myb-related DNA binding motif and binds to duplex TTAGGG repeats localized to all human telomeres in metaphase chromosomes. TRF2 is thought to protect chromosome ends by maintaining the correct structure at telomere termini. Mutant forms of TRF2 suggest its role in the prevention of senescence in primary human cells. Inhibition of TRF2 has been shown to induce apoptosis in certain mammalian cell types.
