Product Specific Information

This 26F8 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD317 (BST2, tetherin). CD317 is a 30–36 kDa type II transmembrane protein expressed on B cells and bone marrow stromal cells. Although CD317 mRNA is detectable in activated T cells, protein expression in primary T cells and macrophages is undetectable. Expression can be induced by IFNα treatment in various cell types (T, B cells, 293T, HeLa). CD317 is associated with pre-B cell growth and plasma B cell differentiation and prevents HIV-1 virion release from infected cells, inhibited by HIV-1 Vpu protein. CD317 is also identified as the ligand for ILT7 receptor.

Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test (100 µL final volume, 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).

Target Information

BST2 (CD317, HM1.24 antigen, DAMP-2, tetherin) is an integral membrane protein involved in B-cell development and growth. It is expressed from pro-B precursors to plasma cells, T-cells, monocytes, NK cells, DCs, and myeloma cells. BST2 inhibits retrovirus release from human cells, antagonized by HIV-1 Vpu protein. Its depletion abolishes the viral requirement for Vpu, suggesting therapeutic potential for HIV/AIDS. BST2 dysfunction is also associated with stomatitis.
