Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a severe and often fatal illness that primarily affects people and nonhuman primates such as monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees. It is caused by infection with viruses belonging to the genus Ebolavirus. VP30 is a phosphoprotein essential for the initiation of Ebola virus transcription and plays a critical role in the replication cycle through its phosphorylation sites, as demonstrated by reverse genetics studies.
