Target Information
ULBP1 is a ligand for the NKG2D receptor, along with ULBP2 and ULBP3. ULBPs activate multiple signaling pathways in primary NK cells, inducing cytokine and chemokine production. Binding of ULBPs to NKG2D triggers calcium mobilization and activation of JAK2, STAT5, ERK, and PI3K/Akt pathways.
In CMV-infected cells, ULBP1 interacts with CMV glycoprotein UL16, which blocks NKG2D binding and retains ULBP1 in the ER and cis-Golgi, preventing its expression on the cell surface.
