GLD2는 세포질 poly(A) RNA polymerase로, 특정 RNA의 3'-말단에 연속적인 AMP 단량체를 추가하여 poly(A) tail을 형성합니다. 핵 내의 전형적인 poly(A) polymerase와 달리, GLD2는 선택된 세포질 mRNA에만 poly(A)를 추가하며, 복제 의존적 히스톤 mRNA 분해에는 관여하지 않습니다.
