Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the C-lectin family, proteins possessing collagen-like sequences and carbohydrate recognition domains.
The COLEC12 protein functions as a scavenger receptor, a cell surface glycoprotein that binds carbohydrate antigens on microorganisms, aiding in their recognition and removal.
It can also recognize oxidized phospholipids, suggesting a role in the clearance of oxidatively damaged or apoptotic cells.
