Target Information
The CD3 subunit complex is crucial in transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating TCR complex expression. CD3 subunits (gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta) are part of the immunoglobulin superfamily and encoded by genes on human chromosome 11. They contain cytoplasmic tails associated with signal transduction molecules via tyrosine-based motifs. CD3 plays roles in TCR-induced growth arrest, survival, and proliferation. It is expressed on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells, but not on B or NK cells. Defects in CD3 genes are linked to CD3 immunodeficiency.
